Blow up? Like how? **** off? Like go away? What do you mean? Inanimate objects err... aren't living.

Ugg, I feel real guilty about this short post. I'm feeling skeptical right now. And some newbies (not talking about you, Duncan, or anyone else in this topic) are really getting on my nerves.

Poot, go away. :P

I made my TV blow(Blank out and spark), it was really weird. I believe in ESP (a little),but it's the little things like scary deja vu that makes me have hopes for magic.

Magic in most forms is real to me. My brother blew up the TV we have downstairs, and our old computer moniter blew up, too. It was kind of cool. The basement was full of smoke when the TV blew. And when we unplugged it and plugged it back in, it started sparking. That amused me, because I love anything to do with explosions and fire. hehe. Smile

I totally believe in Magic, every kind of magic there is. Anyone know where magic even came from? Personally, it had to have been on this earth at one point to even become a myth. ...Maybe it still is Roll EyesMWAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Hi Stargazer and welcome to the boards. You might want to resize your avatar - the biggest that you can have is 100x100 pixels, the same size as a Livejournal icon if you want a reference. Hope you enjoy yourself here.

As for magic - I would say that it would have started as an attempt to explain unknown phenomena - stuff that couldn't be explained any other way. Personally, I'm more of a science person, and I kinda keep magic separate from real life (unless I'm RPing Wink). Science these days can explain everything that magic was used to explain in days past... well most things anyway. Although, it would be very cool if magic was real - especially the magic from the YW universe.

Alla

I'm with you, alla - I'm definitely a science person. I love to read and watch fantasy-type stuff, but I don't believe in any of it. I agree completely that magic, like religion, was invented to explain the world around us when there was no science there to do it.

it had to have been on this earth at one point to even become a myth

That's a fallacy, actually. If every myth had to be real in order for it to become a myth, why, then the earth was once flat and the sun and stars were on a celestial sphere overhead. Also, every god and goddess must have existed at some point, along with Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy.

I want to point out that I'm not saying that your opinion isn't valid; I'm just saying that that argument is incorrect.

Um, dude? You're the one who's posting one liners, and now you tell us to NOT DO IT? Grr.

Magic? I'm tempted not to touch this one with a 20-foot pole.

I, personally, believe there is such thing as magic. But I believe that everything can be explained, and that there is a scientific reason behind most things. This is why I love YW so much. Magic, but with reasoning and science behind it. Smile

Myths are stories, with a little bit based on fact and A LOT made up. Um. BTW, did you people know that the Bible says that a.) the earth is flat b.) the earth is circular c.) the earth is very very very small, and d.) everything on it can be seen if you go up on a REALLY high mountain. Um.

Stargazer: you REALLY need to resize your avvie.

About magic:

I don't really know. I think that we should live life to the fullest. Maybe there IS magic. Who's right? Who's wrong? Who cares? And: Who knows? Smile

Edit: Oh, the person who was posting one-liners was Duncan, who said: Don't post one-liners! See the first page. Which kinda irritates me. Razz

Stargazer: you also need to get permission from the artist whose copyright notice is slapped onto it. Just send them an e-mail asking. You could get lucky and get permission, since 100x100 pixels is an awfully small size and will keep someone from using it commercially. But if you don't have permission, then you're essentially stealing someone's work.

Well, I know there that at least the Santa Claus myth is based on fact. See here for more information. I'm not too sure about the other two. It would be an interesting thing to research - and something that I don't have the time to do right now. Frown...

I think that if we are going to start debating this (fun as it would be), people please don't take anything that is said as a personal statement against beliefs and such.

Gigo, who is posting one liners? Cos if it was gryph up towards the top of the page. That was nearly a year ago XD...

Well, people are always accusing me of having ESP, because I often answer their questions before they ask them...
I do believe that magic is real, and I have several theories on how it works, but I keep them to myself because my rational mind tells me that there is no way that it could be true.

But then, something tells me that my mind is wrong...

Alla, that in fact supports my point. The Santa myth was based on a real person. He did not live on the North Pole with a factory of elvish toymakers, did not have a sleigh drawn by flying reindeer, did not slide down chimneys to deliver gifts, did not go to every child's house all on one night, etc. The man the myth was based on was a philanthropist, period. Everything else was made up.

Of course myths are based on something. However, the myths and legends that we read today are incredibly different even from earlier forms of the same stories, to say nothing of the original person/people/event that they were based on. If every myth had to be real at some point in order to become a myth, those other "facts" about Santa would also have had to have been true, too.

I have to say in the typical sense I don't think magic exists... However, as people have stated things can seem magical, such as a book, a sunset, or a song.
However, lately, actually I guess its been happening my entire life (just not in such a concentration) I have been having these wierd gut feelings that something is going to happen, and usually a specific feeling like that I'm going to be bumped to first class, or a concert is going to be cancelled. They all prove to be right. Its nothing I can control and I don't really know how to explain it... Usually I would just chalk it up to coincidence but this many? I still don't think it has to do with magic, but is there something more to the human psyche that explains this expanded awareness?

Sorry if I sound insane Very Depressed

I don't believe in magic...the coincidences that you're talking about seem to be just that: coincidences. And if they're not...maybe there IS such a thing as fate...but not magic. Maybe they both exist. Maybe neither, which is how I'm generally inclined to view the world.
If you're around a friend a lot, you can anticipate their questions, reactions, &c...finish sentances sometimes, or say something in unison. I've had conversations where I've stopped talking, and the other person backs up my point with the argument I would have mentioned if I had kept talking. Good friends, or people with similar mindsets. Coincidences...

I think there is such a thing as magic. the only thing is that if one doesn't believe in it, or doubts it even a bit is blind to it. magic can be anything that you want it to be.

To answer the original question, magic is real. But it has so many shapes and forms that sometimes, or most of the time, people don't realize it. magic could be love, or talking to your cat (i do that all the time) or it could even be stuff like changing the weather or making a car stop.

Some strange "coincidences": When I want the weather to change, I go outside and think about how I want it to be and I say a few words in a "made-up" language. It Kind of is made up and kinda not. I say whatever sounds and letters come to me. I can't really tell (neither can most people) weither it's coming from myself or another place. Another strange happening it that I find myself strange and I think that I'm somehow a cat. Or I was supposed to be. Well, anyway, one night, I think it was about 3 or 4 months ago, I was going to go upstairs for some water or something and my sis walked out of her room. It's pitch dark downstairs at night so we didn't see eachother. when she looked my way, she totally freaked out and claimed that my eyes glowed like a cat's. of course I didn't be lieve her, and we didn't tell anyone, but then at camp, about a week ago, a cabin-mate said the same thing. it was weird, but i finally gave in and told them about my catlike tendencies. One morning I woke up, licked my hand and rubbed it on the side of my face. When I realized what I was doing, I was kinda freaked out, but I ignored it and got up to take a shower. Another weird thing is that i talk to cats. I meow at them, and they meow back and I use my senses to tell what they're saying. I have a general idea, but of course not exact words.

Well, anyway those are some things that have happened to me. You don't have to think it's true, but at least I know it is. I think magic is real.

I do believe in magic, but not in the YW way. I agree with a lot of people here that magic is everywhere. it is a sunset, a man on the street who knows that hes poor, but still finds something to give to charities, love (scuse the fluffy-ness), friendship in the weirdest places and times, and when someone runs out of a building to answer her cellphone and the building collapses 5 minutes later. magic is everywhere; you just have to know where to look!
