On Kli's suggestion from the injokes topics, I started this.

I guess the first ones that should go in are the YW christmas carols:

  • To the tune of Away in a Manger

    Deep down in the Ocean
Near the Tooth of the Sea
    10 whales and a shark gath'd
    To save the sea.
    The Song of the 12
    was to be sung
Near the bottom of the ocean
In the presence of the Lone One

    S'reee, Ed and hNii't
    With the others in tow
    Swam down to the depths
    To give it a go
    Nita was nervous
As, by the end of the day
She'd be eaten by a shark
    And gone all away

    On the way down there
    The ran into some Squid
    Who fought them and
    Delayed the Celebrants a bit
    They finally got down there
    And began the Song
    with the Lone Power appearing
    And then it went wrong

  • To the tune of 'O come all ye faithful'

    (sung by Dairine in HW)
    Oh come ye Lone Power!
    Fairest and Fallen,
    Greetings and as always defiance
    Come take your best shot
Prove me wrong, cause I reckon
    that I can beat you

    (LP's Response)
    I come to defeat you,
    puny little wizard,
    no wizard has ever been
    able to beat me
    I will wi-in
and then you will be sorry,
then you will ne-ever bug me again.

  • Hark! The YW Cast is Singing - written by Tui

    Hark! The bug-like Rirhait sing
    Neets and Ronan are kissing.
    Danger earth, Carmela's chatting
    Aliens may come attacking.
    Joyful all the wizards rise
to the moon above the skies
With the trees in Central Park
Take the oath to fight the Dark
    Hark! Prophetic parrots sing
Look at Sker'ret eat that swing.

    Ronan, by some girls adored
    Ronan, other times abhorred
    To New York behold him come;
    this coincidence is rum.
Veiled in plastic see the Spear*
    That which even Balor feared
The pen is mightier than the sword
    Just as well, since they're at war;
    Hark! Our Favourite Wizards sing;
    Kit and Nita are kissing.

  • To the tune of Jingle Bells

    Running from Joanne,
    Neets feels faint and sore,
    Then sees the libr'y open
and runs in through the door.
    Hiding 'mongst the books
She decides to take a look
    She's snagged by one
    and then suddenly everything began!

    Chorus:
Oh Wizardry wizardry wizardry is great!
Jumping over oceans and back or running 'round in space, OH!
    *Oh! Young Wizards, Young Wizards,
    Young Wizards away,
Fighting the Starsnuffer and trying to save the day, Hey!

    Neets goes exploring
    Down by the freeway
    There she finds Kit
And with Fred they save the day
    They head off on Ordeal
    To find the bri-ight book
Trying to get it 'fore the Lone One tries to take a look.

    [chorus]

    While at Tiana Beach,
Kit and Nita swim at night,
    Rousing suspicious thoughts
and giving Neets' parents a fright.
    They run into Hotshot
    Who leads them to S'reeee,
They heal the whale and get back home
    after sharks they free.

    [chorus]

The next day they go to meet
    S'reee again in the bay,
    After changing into whales
they swim around for most of the day
    The TwelveSong must be sung
    And Nita volunteers
To sing the Silent Lords part
Without knowing t'was what she feared.

    [chorus]

    Ed the Master Shark,
Swum round and round the whales
    Telling he would end
    Distress without a wail
When the time came 'round for the song
He saw that he was wrong
    'bout Timeheart
and found that was where he belonged.

    [chorus]

    Dairine soon found the Oath
And came to read it young
    Then headed into space
Just for a bit of fun.
Her ordeal was full of danger
    and help from various strangers
She helped defeat the Lone Power
    who before Peach did cower

    [chorus]

    Neets' parents think that
    Their daughter needs a break
    From talking to the trees
    and working with Kit.
    They organise for her
    To visit the Emerald Isle
    Surprisingly to them
This was not greeted with a smile

    [chorus]

    She headed off to Ireland
    and found herself on call
    and going sideways
    which wasn't allowed at all
    she sought out Ronan's help
and then was suprised to find
    That her Aunt Annie
    was one of their kind

    [chorus]

    Dairine and Kit soon appeared
    To help find the Spear
    They sought a Power's help
    To reforge the powerful Spear
    Time came round for battle
    and many wizards came
    To fight for good and
what used to be known as Ireland.

  • WF's contribution
    Anyway, here's my YW carol:
(It's the 12 days of Christmas, but I only got to 8: )

On my eighth day of YW-dom fellow members gave to me:
    Eight claims of sanity
    Seven new foundations
    Six bananananas
    Five smiley wars!
    Four virtual muffins
    Three roleplay links
    Two Poot fanarts
And a get away from Aurie free card!

Ok. Thats all I can find and I've been reading page after page of the TOGR looking for them.

    Add other ones people!

I am totally going to do a filk, because I was thinking about one earlier. It needs some work though and it's a little late so not right now, but I also had a question for you guys. It's a very stupid fandom question, so sue me, but it's relevant to the topic of filk (or I think so, anyway.)

What songs remind you of YW characters? Any in particular? None?

I have to say this fandom has a lot of songs that go with it for me- I'll be listening to the radio or something and they'll just come up, and I'll be all "Oh!" which is sort of fun. Smile

Hey Schoolgirl by Tom and Jerry (Simon and Garfunkel in another guise) reminds me of Kit and Nita and, who am I kidding, Nita/Kit a lot. lyrics here.

Arithmetic by Brooke Fraser pretty much is exactly Dairine to my mind. I mean, Dairine in love, which is admittedly not a concept we're likely to see explored, but still. I don't know why. :P (You won't have heard this song, so the lyrics are here. I think you kind of need the tune though.

And, heh, I think I've mentioned this before (god, I've probably mentioned this whole thing before and have forgotten it. But probably not many people remember, right?) but The Only Living Boy in New York by Simon and Garfunkel reminds me of Tom and Carl, probably only because the first line is Tom, get your plane right on time. lyrics.

I'll admit to having been a sixteenth of a guest of honor at one filk convention, and involved in the running of at least one other, but I'd completely missed this thread. Can't say I've ever done any much writing of filk, though...

I've got an idea for one. It's still to Jingle Bells. (Well, technically it's to Dashing Through the Snow...) Lessee...

    'Mela's got a hot curler
    That spits out lazer beams
    beating up the aliens
    and with choc'late she bargains

I have another one to add... 9 brand new straightjackets. Just a suggestion. Big Grin

On the grounds of seeming foolish and non-rhyming/not matching the tune, I am not going to post a song about YW.

I know Smile that was part of the point. I keep meaning to go back and finish them, but working Christmases (Christmasses?) in retail really kills your want to hear the carols at any other time. I guess I could try and write something original... but I'm not that good at composing.

Gwendi: The ones that are up there were written over a week or so (after a discussion on the Australian Christmas Carols somewhere in the depths of TOGR). Please, feel free to try and write your own. No-one here will laugh at you Smile

Not adding a song of my own (as I wasn't able to come up with anything though I wanted to) I'm instead just adding things that were originally missed.

In TOGR when these songs first showed up there was another song:

    Talkingbeast's contribution:
    Joy to the world
    RoShaun has come
    Let Earth receive a king
    Let Dairine and her dad
    Prepare him room
    and Filif and Skeret sing
    and Filif and Skeret sing
and Filif, and Filif and Skeret sing

We will remember you PM. And your little GingerBear.
