Ooohh, oooohh, this reminds me of something Rad made a while ago, a music video with a Superchick song... what was it... Not Done Yet. Fits PERFECTLY.

'It's been one of those days
For a lot of days now I need a day
Where the world can take care of itself'

Personally, "Harder, Better Faster, Stronger" has always seemed like the perfect song for the silicon intelligences in High Wizardry. But recently I've realized how much it could apply to Wizardry as a whole.

Work It Harder Make It Better
Do It Faster, Makes Us stronger
More Than Ever Hour After
Our Work Is Never Over

Wizardry as an art form that is more beautiful as you perfect it and yes, the work is "never over".

Also, "Fly Away" reminds me of High Wizardry as well.

I wish that I could fly
Into the sky
So very high
Just like a dragonfly

I'd fly above the trees
Over the seas in all degrees
To anywhere I please

Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah

Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah

Let's go and see the stars
The milky way or even Mars
Where it could just be ours

Let's fade into the sun
Let your spirit fly
Where we are one

If you need something to worship, then worship life — all life, every last crawling bit of it! We're all in this beauty together!

Slipping Away, by Moby

quote:
All that we needed is right
a threshhold is breaking tonight—
open to everything happy and sad,
seeing the good when it's all going bad
seeing the sun when I can't really see
hoping the sun will at least look at me
focus on everything better today
all that I needed I never could say
hold on to people that's slipping away
hold on to this while it's slipping away...

This kind of reminds me of two things. Firstly, Nita's struggle (so many songs reminiscent of that), while her mother is still alive — but is certainly going to die. In the feline wizard books, the pages where Arhu remembers his twin.

I might repeat to myself, slowly and soothingly, a list of quotations beautiful from minds profound; if I can remember any of the **** things. —Dorothy Parker

Though Kit and Nita still work together, there was that time when they worked on separate assignments and projects and it looked like they wouldn't really be partners anymore... as I was thinking about it this early morning... the Song from High School Musical 2 came to mind - "I Gotta Go My Own Way"
Gabriella
I gotta say what's on my mind
Something about us
doesn't seem right these days
life keeps getting in the way
Whenever we try, somehow the plan
is always rearranged

It's so hard to say
But I've gotta do what's best for me
You'll be ok..

I've got to move on and be who I am
I just don't belong here
I hope you understand
We might find our place in this
world someday
But at least for now
I gotta go my own way

Don't wanna leave it all behind
But I get my hopes up
and I watch them fall everytime
Another colour turns to grey
and it's just too hard to watch it all
slowly fade away
I'm leaving today 'cause I've
gotta do what's best for me
you'll be ok..
I've got to move on and be who I am
I just don't belong here
I hope you understand
We might find our place in this
world someday
But at least for now
I gotta go my own way

Troy
What about us?
What about everything we've been through?

Gabriella
What about trust?

Troy
you know I never wanted to hurt you

Gabriella
and what about me?

Troy
What am I supposed to do?

Gabriella
I gotta leave but I'll miss you

Troy
I'll miss you

Gabriella
so
I've got to move on and be who I am

Troy
Why do you have to go?

Gabriella
I just don't belong here
I hope you understand

Troy:
I'm trying to understand

Gabriella
We might find our place in this
world someday
but at least for now

Troy
I want you to stay

Gabriella
I wanna go my own way
I've got to move on and be who I am

Troy
What about us?

Gabriella
I just don't belong here
I hope you understand

Troy
I'm trying to understand

Gabriella
We might find our place in this
world someday
but at least for now
I gotta go my own way (repeat 3 times)

I'll post others as they come to me... I've got all of the Wizard books with me... some of the only books I brought with me....

Ok, guys, I think it's time for me to drop a small note here to say it may be time to reread the Board FAQ. We'd rather read what you have to say about the songs you like, and why they remind you of the YW books. You can always link to full copies of the quotes and the like, but the bulk of the text here should be your own words.

We have had threads before that descended into nothing-but-quotes, and well, remember how we're supposed to be careful with the space/bandwidth we've got? Just a friendly reminder.

New to the YW board? Take a moment to read the Board FAQ.

How about "Running Alone" by Steve Perry. It's kind of...self-explanatory as to why it reminds me of the YW series...HW, in particular. You'll get it once you read the lyrics or hear the song...Big Grin

I came across this song randomly, hearing that it was good...and then I listened to it...and laughed for about ten minutes. Big Grin

Besides the obvious reason that this song reminded me of YW, I think that the verses just seem like someone trying to find their own strength, and be able to be okay working alone, even though they're used to working with someone else. To me it sounded kind of...wizard-y...

Wow kk, that song really does remind me of the YW series. I think like through out the whole series, or just the first four or five books. I like the "Cold city sidewalks can turn your heart to stone" and "I believe that every soul has a song to sing" parts.

Actually I just like the whole song. Good choice!!

Emi: Thanks, but do you recognize some of the lyrics? They were mentioned, I believe, in HW. Nita was on the moon, I think...it's been a while since I've read that book, though.

I think the lyrics quoted were:

"Everyone's a hero
If you want to be
Everyone's a prisoner
Holding their own key
Every step I take
Every move I make
Always one step closer"

I guess that if I was right about the lyrics matching up with the ones mentioned, then I guess it wasn't exactly my choice to compare it to the series, but DD's. Big Grin

OK, another song by Steve Perry...heh...I've been listening to his music lately. That and Journey...anyways...

It's the song I Stand Alone:

"I know the sound of each rock and stone
I embrace what others fear
You are not to roam in this forgotten place
Just the likes of me are welcome here

Everything breathes
And I know each breath
It's more than enough for this man

Like every tree stands on its own
Reaching for the sky I stand alone
I share my world
With no one else
All by myself
I stand alone"

Link to the Song

And another song...this one is kind of...well, anyways. I just laughed a bit, because I thought of Dairine searching for Roshaun at this verse:

"You must be lost in a faraway land
I searched forever your footprints in the sand
I feel you need me, I have to answer
That desperate call that I do not understand"

It's "Border" by America.

"Believe something and the Universe is on its way to being changed. Because you've changed, by believing. Once you've changed, other things start to follow."

The song We Belong, by Pat Benatar. I really like that one and parts of it really seem to match wizards.

"We Belong to the light
We Belong to the thunder
We Belong to the sound of the words"

"Close your eyes and try to sleep now
Close your eyes and try to dream
Clear your mind and do your best"

are the parts that really make me think of them.

I can't think or many songs, but Unwritten, by Natasha Bedingfield fit too.

"And on he went, out of sight in unhurried grace; the true dark angel, the unfallen Destroyer, the Pale slayer who never really dies-seeking for pain to end." Deep Wizardry, page 355

One song that I have liked for a while, that reminds me a TON of YW, is Spare and Angel by Chris Rice. It sounds like it would be Kit's perspective in TWD and AWAl...

The first verse:

quote:
"Found her staring at the rain, and asking why it has to hurt so bad
Where's the limit to the pain her heart can take, before it breaks in half

I wanted to be strong enough to hold her, show her the way
But she's so far out of reach, now all I can do is pray..."

Chorus:

"Can you spare an angel tonight, send a little help from your side, 'cause somebody's lost down here
Let him wing his way through the dark, carry some of your love into her heart...
Can you spare an angel?"

It's a really sad song, but it's really pretty. Smile

And then this song...This Is Your Time by Michael w. Smith. It makes me think about Deep Wizardry, and it seems to me to be what it would have been like if Nita had died during the Song....

quote:
This was her time. this was her dance.
She lived every moment; left nothing to chance.
She swam in the sea; drank of the deep;
Embraced the mystery of all she could be.

This was her time...

Though you are mourning and grieving with us,
Death died a long time ago;
Swallowed in life so that life carries on.
Still its so hard to let go.

It made me cry the first time I heard both of those songs...just such memories...sigh...

They are on my favorite songs list... Big Grin

I have another!

Has anyone ever sen the movie Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron?

The song "You can't take me, I'm free"

"Never gonna give it up, never gonna give it up, no..."

or something like that. It just popped nto my head, so some lyrics may be wrong.

Okay, this song is an "oldie but a goodie" as some people say. I am pretty sure most people have heard this song, and it reminds me of Kit and Nita. It's called "You've got a friend" and I think it's by Carole King and sung by James Taylor. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Another song...I really like this one.

"Give Me Your Eyes" by Brandon Heath. It's a recent song; it came out just this year.

The first verse:

quote:

Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touched down on the cold black tile
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breath in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos
All those people going somewhere?
Why have I never cared?

It reminds me of SYWTBAW, in which Nita and Kit are looking down on the Dark Manhattan from above; and when they are also back in their own world, with people rushing past them as they tried to fight the Lone One.
